Remember Me Memorial Trees

    Asbury Park NJ

The City of Asbury Park has been honored to be an Arbor Day Foundation “New Jersey Tree City” for 17 years. Earning this designation and keeping our City’s tree canopy vibrant relies on the resources of the Environmental Shade Tree Commission (ESTC), the Department of Public Works (DPW) and all its residents. In order to replace lost trees and plant new ones in needed areas, the (ESTC) launched a new major tree planting project in 2020 called “Remember Me”. The ESTC has planted more than 70 young trees throughout the City over the last two years. Each tree has been planted in honor of an event (birthday, anniversary, bar/bat mitzvah, baptism, etc.) or in memory of a special person in one’s life. In order to further personalize this planting, donors collaborate with the ESTC to select the appropriate species of tree they’d like to sponsor as well as the site of its planting. Donors also have been invited to help the ESTC volunteers plant the tree. Each tree has been fitted with with a Memorial Plaque and with a 20-gallon water bag to ensure its development for 2-3 years.
