On Saturday morning we'll continue weeding the Gratitude Garden, and spread a new layer of mulch. NOTE: Greening will begin an hour earlier, at 8:00am, for the rest of the summer. Cold water and Gatorade will be provide to all volunteers who come out and brave the heat!
We'll begin at the new Kite Garden, east of the Children's Garden on Lake Ave and will move westward toward the Pollinator Garden. Though a pallet (75 bags) of mulch arrived at the DPW yesterday, thankfully the Lake Ave gardens only need superficial weeding and in true fashion some mulching as well.
Saturday's ESTC Greening will be reminiscent of a childhood game called "Eenie, Meenie, Miny, Mo" but which means "Gratitude, Merchants, Civil War, Kite" or "G,M,C,K"...all of which need some extra mulch to keep our weed population under control. Saturday's ESTC Greening (8/5/23) from 8-10 AM will be at the Civil War Garden which is in need of deadheading and some minor weeding.
Wednesday's ESTC Greening from 8-10 AM will be at Merchants Park on Cookman and Main Street. While the garden is growing well, it is in need of cleaning up pedestrian and wind blown trash, minor weeding and pruning.
Saturday's ESTC Greening will begin at the Daffodil/Stella d'Oro Lily Garden on Sunset and Bridge Ave and end at the Butterfly Garden on 5th Ave next to Veterans Park. Today's weather will loosen the grip of the weeds and thankfully make removing them at the roots easier.
Wednesday's greening will take place at our Butterfly Garden. Weeding and dead-heading will be the primary tasks for the day.
Rain on Wednesday kept us from being able to tend this garden on 5th avenue, so we'll descend on it this Saturday. We'll be weeding and deadheading. See you there!
